You can setup Google AMP for WordPress website within one minute. AMP is the best way to generate a fastest mobile website. In this guide, I am going to show you how to setup Google AMP on your WordPress website.
It is well-known fact that, Google gives priority to mobile responsive and fast loading websites. You can use Responsive themes like Genesis theme, jetpack mobile theme option or wp touch pro plugin to generate a mobile website. Now you need not follow any of above-mentioned methods. Google has made it very easy to create a mobile site with the Google AMP. Even AMP pages load faster than your responsive website. Let me introduce some basic information about AMP.
What is Google AMP?
AMP is the short form for Accelerated Mobile Pages. It is the open source project by Google. If you implement AMP on your website, Google fetches your website and stores in their Content delivery network servers. It serves from their cache instead of your web server. How to setup Google AMP for WordPress
You just need to install AMP plugin. It is a free plugin developed by Automattic. So it is the official plugin to implement Google AMP on WordPress.
Update: I recommend you use AMP for WP plugin which works without AMP plugin and gives you many customization options. If you have installed AMP plugin, you must install AMP for WP plugin for more customization options. It is better to use only one plugin (AMP for WP) instead of two.
Log in into your WordPress dashboard.
Go to Plugins -> Add New. Search with the word AMP.
Install the plugin and Activate the plugin. That’s it you have all done.
This plugin has no settings. You can just change some color options.
Go to Appearance -> AMP. You will see Design option. Click on that. Just select your required Header Text color and Header Background & Link Color. Click Save & Publish.
How to Customize AMP?
As you may know that, AMP pages will not show ads, comments, related posts, social share buttons, menu, search option and lead generation popups.
But you can get all features other than lead capture popup by using AMP for WP plugin. It is a free plugin. You can use this plugin even without installing official AMP plugin.
How to Test AMP pages?
After implementing AMP, you need to validate or test your implementation. Because, If you had made any mistakes, you can rectify immediately. Google has a tool to validate your AMP pages. I have given some methods to test your AMP pages.
Remember, Google search will not show you AMP pages immediately. It will take some days to crawl your pages.
How to Track AMP?
Your existing Google analytics tracking code will not track your AMP pages. You need to create a separate property for AMP website in Google analytics. You need to place your tracking code in your AMP pages. I have written two methods to place analytics code in AMP pages.
